Obituary of Stephan Leibfried (1944 - 2018)

 

Since 1974 professor at the University of Bremen, he was one of the founders of the interdisciplinary Centre for Social Policy Research (CeS) in 1988. He was part of the initiative group led by Michael Zürn and Bernhard Peters (both InIIS), who launched the Collaborative Research Center "Transformations of the State" (SFB 597), which was funded from 2003 to 2014. The latest Collaborative Research Centre "Global Development Dynamics of Social Policy" (SFB 1342), which has been working with the participation of InIIS since the beginning of this year, finally saw him as an active advisor and helpful supporter. Stephan Leibfried was present when the Graduate School of Social Sciences (GSSS) was established in 2001 with funds from the Volkswagen Foundation as a joint institution of the University of Bremen and Jacobs University Bremen to train doctoral students in the social sciences. This was then transferred in 2007 to the Bremen International Graduate School of Social Sciences (BIGSSS), which was funded by the Excellence Initiative. Read more ...
